Canon of Medicine Volume 5: Pharmacopia

In Volume 5 of The Canon of Medicine: Pharmacopia, Avicenna (980-1037 CE), the most famous physician of the Middle Ages, writes about a mysterious dodecapharmacum healing ointment called The Apostles’ Ointment. The ointment is based on the humoural theory of hot, cold, wet, and dry. According to tradition, each of the Apostles offers one ingredient.
