This book is mainly based on on the lectures of Iqbal which have been collected and published under the titled, “The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam.” In the fifth and sixth chapters of this book, Iqbal has dealt with various aspects of Muslim culture; for example its anti-classical spirit, its principle of movement (Ijtihad) and the rise and growth of Sufism. In dealing with the anti-classical spirit of the Quran which Iqbal has emphasized, the author has briefly discussed the whole development of classical thought in its relation to the teachings of the Quran. Thus the present book can best be described as a commentary on Iqbal.
